🚇 Henry’s Tunnel – The Rainy Day Retreat!
Welcome to Henry’s Tunnel, one of the most iconic spots on the Island of Sodor — and home to one of the most famous tales in all of Thomas & Friends history!
This quiet tunnel may look ordinary now, but it once caused quite the commotion — when Henry refused to come out!
📍 Location
Henry’s Tunnel is along the main line near Knapford and Vicarstown, surrounded by green hills and quiet countryside. Today, engines pass through it smoothly — but long ago, it was the centre of a rather soggy standoff!
📚 A Little History (for the grown-ups)
Henry’s Tunnel first appeared in The Railway Series book The Three Railway Engines (1945), and later in the Thomas & Friends TV show. It’s famously where Henry refused to leave the tunnel because he didn’t want the rain to spoil his lovely green paint!
The Fat Controller (then known as Sir Topham Hatt) tried everything — even pulling with other engines — but Henry wouldn’t budge. In the end, they bricked him in the tunnel!
Eventually, he was let out again — and learned a big lesson about vanity, bravery, and being part of a team.
🚂 Engines Who Know It Well
Henry – Of course! It’s his tunnel, after all — and he’s since become one of the most dependable engines on Sodor.
Edward – Always there to lend advice and gently encourage his friend.
Gordon & Thomas – Played key roles in Henry’s original story, trying to help and later learning from it.
