📖 Sodor Stories – Where the Adventures Began
Welcome to Sodor Stories — where the original adventures of Thomas & Friends first came to life.
Long before the television series, the engines of Sodor were introduced in the Railway Series books by Rev. W. Awdry. These beautifully written tales brought us Thomas, Edward, Gordon, and their friends — sharing timeless stories of teamwork, determination, and friendship.
Each month, we revisit a classic Railway Series book in the order it was published
Featuring Edward, Gordon, and Henry
This classic 1945 Railway Series title by Rev. W. Awdry introduces us to the original steam engines of Sodor — Edward, Gordon, and Henry.
Across four short stories, we see:
Edward prove he’s still a really useful engine
Gordon get stuck on a hill
And Henry learn a soggy lesson about working in the rain!

What we found especially funny was when Sir Topham Hatt went to wave out the window — only to lose his hat in the wind!
It blew into a field and was eaten by a goat!
We think it serves him right for not helping pull Henry out of the tunnel with the other passengers (though apparently, his doctor had forbidden it).
Introducing Thomas!
In this beloved Railway Series book, we meet Thomas — a cheeky little blue engine with big dreams of pulling his own train.
Across four fun adventures, Thomas learns some important lessons about teamwork, patience, and what it truly means to be a really useful engine.

You realise very early on just how cheeky Thomas really is — full of energy, a bit impatient, and with a lot to learn!
We especially laughed when James came crashing into a field and parked himself right where a poor cow was eating! That cow must’ve been so alarmed…
Silly James!
Introducing James!
In this exciting third instalment of The Railway Series, we’re properly introduced to James — the shiny red engine with big ambitions and an even bigger personality!
Across four lively stories, James learns valuable lessons about pride, responsibility, and the ups and downs of trying to impress others (especially when you’re not paying attention to your brakes!)

James certainly loves to show off — but that doesn’t always go to plan! We couldn’t help but chuckle when he got a bit too confident and ended up in a sticky situation with some Troublesome Trucks.
Let’s just say he wasn’t quite so shiny after that… but we think he still looked dashing in red!
