Thomas and Friends Tidmouth sheds. A parent-friendly guide to Sodor’s busiest station.

🚉 Tidmouth Sheds – Where the Engines Rest!

Tidmouth Sheds is the coziest and most important place on the Island of Sodor — it’s where the engines sleep, rest, and get ready for a brand-new day of adventures! This is where they share stories, honk hello, and get all polished up before heading out onto the tracks.

You’ll often find Sir Topham Hatt (The Fat Controller) here, giving the engines their daily jobs. It’s like a team huddle — with whistles and steam!

Location

Tidmouth is a town on the west coast of Sodor. The sheds are just a puff down the track from Knapford Station, which makes it the perfect place for the engines to rest before early morning journeys.

It’s where everything begins — and ends — each day.

A Little History (for the grown-ups)

The engines have called Tidmouth Sheds home since the very first Railway Series book by Rev. W. Awdry. In the TV series, it’s often the very first place you see — with engines all lined up, ready to listen to Sir Topham Hatt.

With seven berths, it’s one of the busiest sheds on Sodor, often filled with chatter, steam, and the sound of happy engines catching up before bedtime.

Engines Who Call It Home;

These engines are usually found sleeping or chatting at Tidmouth:

Thomas, ready for the morning mail or branch line run

Percy, back from shunting duties

Gordon, resting after a grand express run

James, looking polished and proud

Emily, Edward, and sometimes even Toby and Henry stop by too!

Places In and Around Tidmouth Sheds

The sheds aren’t alone — they’re part of a busy railway town filled with places little ones might recognise from episodes and books:

Tidmouth Station

Just nearby, this smaller station helps engines pick up passengers on the main line. It’s often quieter than Knapford, but just as important.

Tidmouth Yards

Engines like Percy and Rosie help move trucks here. It’s where freight is sorted and where useful engines go when it’s time to organise a delivery!

Tidmouth Docks (not far away!)

While not directly part of the sheds, Tidmouth Docks is often visited by engines leaving the sheds for delivery. You might even spot Cranky the Crane at work!
